I Am No Queen: Shadab Khan’s independent documentary enters 98th Academy Awards race

Filmmaker Shadab Khan’s latest documentary ‘I Am No Queen’ has officially entered the race for the 98th Academy Awards in the Documentary Feature category.

The film has earned a coveted spot in the Academy Screening Room. This platform is for documentaries that meet strict eligibility standards and gain recognition from the Documentary Branch.

‘I Am No Queen’ takes viewers on a journey exploring the lives of students navigating the complex world of migration and identity. It portrays the challenges faced by students moving from developing countries to developed nations. The idea behind the film was to capture their struggles and hopes.

The documentary portrays of the experiences that have contributed to meaningful policy changes for international students in Canada. Some senior Canadian leaders even personally recommended the film as a potential Oscar contender.

Speaking about his film’s message, Shadab Khan said, “I am truly honored to have ‘I Am No Queen’ featured in the Academy Screening Room. The film tells the story of a student from a third-world country who travels to a first-world nation in search of dignity, opportunity, and survival.”

The film features performances by Fatima Iqbal Alvi and Vaibhav Sharma. The story was penned by Shadab Khan himself, alongside Minu Basi.

Shadab Khan has already made a name for himself in international cinema. His earlier works include ‘X or Y’. It won 23 awards globally. His other work ‘Rabia’ and ‘Olivia’ together earned 13 international accolades.
